WHAT KINDS OF CHARACTERS CAN I PLAY HERE?

Generally speaking, anything with a Magical Girl element is welcome in this dressing room. What does that mean exactly? If a character is from a mahou shoujo canon, a mahou shoujo AU, then you're golden! Characters not from a mahou shoujo canon will need an AU to make them work within that particular genre, even if they may otherwise work thematically.

WHAT ABOUT ORIGINAL CHARACTERS OR FANDOM OCS?

Original characters fall under the same criteria as OU and AU characters. As long as there is some magical girl or similar element in the canon or AU itself, then you are fine. Fandom OCs have a few further restrictions placed upon them. CR between established characters in the canon should not be forced, and a general rule of thumb is that you should avoid any kind of relationship with (familial, friendly, romantic, antagonistic, etc.) established characters in the canon.

WHAT ABOUT AGENDER/GENDER FLUID/NON-BINARY/ETC. CHARACTERS?

We welcome them with open arms. By definition, the mahou shoujo genre tends to have very gendered language, however, we like to think of it more as magical people, rather than one specific gender.

WHAT ABOUT COMPANION CHARACTERS?

Characters like Hummy from Precure or Luna and Artemis from Sailor Moon, for example, are more than welcome here. There are classes made with magical companions specifically in mind that they can be a part of. They can also choose to accompany their respective magical person or people.

ARE THERE APPLICATIONS AND WHEN DO THEY OPEN?

There are no applications for this community. We ask that players put a comment on the Character Directory before beginning to play. This post is open indefinitely.

Makenai yo! is being run as a dressing room for the time being. While there may be occasional events, there is no one overarching plot for this place. Players are welcome to play out their own personal story lines within the setting. If there is enough desire for more plot-related things in the future, then that status may change.

WHAT IF I WANT TO PLAY A CHARACTER THAT ANOTHER PERSON PLAYS?

Multiple versions of the same character can exist in the dressing room at any given time.

HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?

Crux Academy and Nebulae Institute cater to any and all students, teachers of other faculty that the headmistress, headmaster and their assistant deem worthy. Time and the multiverse are very difficult concepts to fathom, and there are times where individuals from varying timelines or realities are brought together in the same place.

CAN I PLAY A TEACHER?

Of course! Students and teachers are both playable within the dressing room, as well as other faculty members. The only restrictions here are the headmistress, headmaster and their assistants, which are taken by (mostly) off-screen NPCs.

HOW DOES NEBULAE INSTITUTE WORK? THEY'RE IN THE SAME PLACE?

Yes and no. Nebulae Institute of the Dark Arts exists in a small pocket universe, conveniently located on the same campus as Crux Academy. Both schools share the same floor plan, and there are places within both schools where the lines between dimensions blur and students can (knowingly or unknowingly) pass between the two campuses. Interestingly, their uniform will change based upon which campus they are currently on.

HOW DOES MOVING BETWEEN CAMPUSES WORK?

There are places throughout both schools where the shroud between dimensions is thinner. Students and faculty can pass through these ley lines and find themselves on the other campus, accidentally or not. These places change depending upon timing, but students will always find themselves in the equivalent spot on the opposite campus.

CAN MY CHARACTER TAKE CLASSES OR TEACH CLASSES AT BOTH SCHOOL?

If they're extremely careful! Which is to say yes, yes you can. But don't get caught, the consequences could be deadly!

DEADLY? THAT DOESN'T SOUND GOOD!

In play, the consequences of being found out are as dire as you wish to make them.

HOW DO THE BROOCHES WORK?

Each student is issued brooch upon acceptance to their respective school. This allows the character to be able to tap into their abilities without the need to fully transform, making it easier for faculty to help them hone their powers in a classroom setting. In addition, it will disguise the student slightly should they choose to try to sneak into the other school. However, if they do so, they will need to transform in order to access any of their abilities, so there is a bit of a gamble there.

CAN PLAY SOME KIND OF SPY OR DOUBLE AGENT?

This mechanic was made with that sort of thing in mind, as well as a way to allow characters from either school to interact with each other without difficulty.

ARE CHARACTERS ABLE TO GO BACK TO THEIR RESPECTIVE WORLDS?

Once accepted into their respective school, travel between that world and their own is easily doable. Time flows differently, so it may be as if no time has passed--or that hours, weeks, months, or even years have transpired. However, there is a strange property of the brooches, as their magic stays with the user. They are not able to talk about Galactica or either school. Every time when they try, they will instinctively move away from the subject.

If it makes play fun and interesting for you, assume that it is.

HOW DO I FILL OUT AN ENTRY ON THE CHARACTER DIRECTORY IF MY CHARACTER WILL BE AT BOTH SCHOOLS?

While characters are able to move to and from campuses somewhat freely, we ask that you choose a single alliance between Crux Academy or Nebulae Institute. That is where you will put your character information.

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER CHANGES SIDES?

Your character directory entry will be switched over to the respective school.
